A new platform is making ESG simple for global businesses, with a single initiative that tackles environmental and social challenges.
In a year when ESG gets even more complex, the new Treekly app supports multiple ESG needs in one – combining employee wellbeing and corporate reputation with staff engagement and climate change action.
Treekly rewards employees for walking over 5,000 steps a day with the planting of mangrove trees in certified reforestation sites across the world. In doing so, ecosystems are restored, local communities are lifted out of poverty and carbon is removed from the atmosphere. For businesses, multiple ESG needs are met in a simple way that drives genuine impact.
E.ON, one of the world’s largest energy suppliers, is using Treekly to engage employees and customers with a strong sustainability message while encouraging healthy habits. The platform has also helped it amplify its club sponsorship of Nottingham Forest FC with fans walking 5,000 steps each day to plant a tree. Employees joined football supporters, and in just one month their collective steps resulted in over 37,000 mangrove trees being planted.
Finastra, one of the world’s largest FinTech businesses, has twice used the platform for company-wide annual steps challenges involving offices across APAC, Americas and EMEA. Finastra’s Head of ESG, Impact and Purpose describes Treekly as: ‘a way to involve and bring people together across the organisation during Earth Month. I heard lots of personal stories of how the challenge benefitted people across Finastra.’
Thirdly, Gleeds, a global construction and real estate company, used Treekly for a one-month walking challenge for employees and family members in support of World Mental Health Day. More than 1,600 people walked 839 million steps in a month, which resulted in over 55,000 trees being planted. To quote a senior figure at Gleeds: “Never underestimate the power of a global company challenge. The buzz this challenge has created in the offices I have visited so far is amazing.”
Social value and people are a core part of ESG, yet there is a lack of tangible solutions in this area.
By gamifying environmental action in a way that produces positive health outcomes, Treekly addresses multiple ESG demands for organisations. HR leaders can engage their workforce in a new way and directly connect their people to a platform doing good for wellbeing and the planet.
The trees are planted to a rigorous standard in partnership with Veritree, involving local communities where overuse of land has previously devastated local habitats and economies. Veritree tracks all projects using blockchain technology and assesses the growth and survivability of the trees by using AI, computer vision and IOT sensors to enhance project transparency, aligned to 10 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
